Marilyn Moffat, Open University

Biography

Marilyn has worked at the Open University for more than 25 years in a range of IT roles starting as a Research Adviser moving through roles in User Support and Systems Management to Head of Distributed Systems in 2000. In this role she was heavily involved in the shaping of a range of services to staff including the introduction of Active Directory, Exchange, WAN optimisation and latterly adding Lync to the portfolio of services available to staff. In November 2012 she changed role to become Senior Infrastructure Architect as part of the restructuring of services, enabling her to use her extensive experience in introducing and establishing new solutions at a time of extensive systems change for the university.

Abstract

LYNC, OCS and federation - Microsoft Lync telephony

The proposed paper will outline the OU's journey into full Lync VOIP. It will cover the building of the business case, user engagement and lessons learned from the final roll out. We will also present examples of changed / improved working practice and in particular highlight examples of collaboration that it has enabled.
